You know what I love about online marketing and social media?
You can be small and play for big-time success!
You do not need a huge budget to start out. You do not need huge amounts of money to grow. And you certainly do not need huge investments before you can earn a fair share of money.

The internet is not a place where you just browse around and are happy for any kind of entertainment.
The internet has long turned into a place where people are looking for answers to very specific questions. he better you manage to match the information you provide to the audience you reach, the better will be your results in form of conversions or sales.
“However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results.”
In marketing, you can get so stuck in the hamster wheel of your daily tasks that you forget to question your actions and look at the results regularly. But if you don’t watch your numbers you can easily go running in the wrong direction for ages and never get any closer to reaching your goals.
A strategy is good, numbers to prove where you are headed are better.
“If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all: Read a lot and write a lot”
Newbie bloggers or people just dreaming of becoming a blogger often face the problem that they don’t feel that they are writers. They do not think that their writing is good enough.
But we have all started out as beginners. We all jumped right in without being expert writers – most bloggers are not born Pulitzer Prize-winning writers.
But your writing can develop. You can learn to write better. And the best way to learn writing is to read a lot and to write a lot.

Treat your budget with care. As long as you do not make considerable money you should not invest a bunch of money into unnecessary or risky adventures.
Some online gurus promise you the holy grail of blogging success if you just invest enough money in advertising. That should not your route to go. Because if you want to lose money, there are simpler ways to do it.
Advertising CAN work, but it usually does not work any better than other marketing stuff if you do not have your sales funnel optimized and set up.
“Successful companies in social media function more like entertainment companies, publishers or party planners than as traditional advertisers.”
I am guilty of this: I sometimes just provide rather dry information. The information is still good, but bonding, attention and conversion would maybe be better with a little extra.
I would probably do much better if I put the information in more entertaining packages. Add a story to a post. Use images, videos and memes. Entertaining your audience will help you to keep the attention – and it will pay off!
“People do not buy goods and services. They buy relations, stories and magic.”
Have you wondered why your sales funnel does not work? And your audience does not seem to be very interested in your products?
Maybe you are simply trying to sell the wrong things. It is not products that people are looking for. it is solutions and the fulfillment of dreams. Try to sell that instead of your products – and see how that works for you!
“People want to do business with you because you help them get what they want. They don’t do business with you because they help you get what you want.”
Don’t try to change your audience – change your way of approaching them. If they do not want to buy your products, either change your story – or change your story.
Your audience won’t change just to give you more success. Provide what people want, make them see that they want it: That is how it will work!
“Your brand is what other people say about you when you are not in the room.”
Your brand is not what you tell people it is. You have to create an image for your business that people believe in.
If people are saying behind your back what you would love them to say to your face about your brand you are good!
“The overarching problem is that everyone sees and uses social media from a different perspective.”
I have been told so many things I should not do on social media. I have always made my own decisions – not based on what others say but based on numbers.
For instance, automated direct messages on Twitter were really “bad” for so many people. Yet, the success and growth of our first business came from utilizing automated direct messages. It all depends on the perspective: Something can be good for me but wrong for you – or the other way around. Just be aware, that someone else might simply look at things from a totally different perspective!
“You can go broke being social, you know.”
Mark Schaefer wrote this in the context that you cannot scale the “social” in social media. You can invest huge amounts of time into engagement on social media and in the end, you have not made any money. Engagement is great, but standing alone engagement does not get you anywhere.
Plus, many bloggers and business owners face the problem, that they get so involved and fascinated by all that is happening on social media that they lose a ton of time for nothing. Just for browsing around. Be careful to set yourself a time limit for how much time you will spend on social media. Or you might get lost…
“Most businesses actually get zero distribution channels to work. Poor distribution – not product – is the number one cause of failure.”
I have heard it numerous times: “I will do marketing when my product is ready.” “We don’t have money for marketing, we put all our money into the product.” “Marketing? We are going to hire an intern.”
And they are all wrong. Because the number one reason why businesses fail is not a bad or wrong product. It is the failure to distribute the product and reach an interested audience. You should pay a lot more respect to distribution.
“Content is king, but distribution is queen and she wears the pants.”
There is still the stupid rumor running around that great content would rise to the top automatically. If you believe that go ahead: create the best content and wait… forever.
If you want success, create content and then work like hell on distributing it. That is how your content wins.
“Marketers always ask me how to make more or better content and it’s almost always the wrong question. The right question is: How do I get my content in front of the right people.”
Yes, you need content and you need a lot of content. But without a targeted audience alö the great content of the world is not going to get you success.
Once you have some content, it is not a question of creating more and more awesome content anymore. Instead, the big question to which you have to find an answer is how you can reach a targeted audience.
“It’s not the best content that wins. It’s the best-promoted content.”
I cannot say it enough – and you see that a lot of other marketers have also talked about it: Think about promotion. Content is good. Great content is better.
But the best-promoted content will win the game – even if it is not the best content.
“On the average, five times as many people read the headline as read the body copy. When you have written your headline you have spent eighty cents out of your dollar!”
I have seen this hundreds of times. In fact, we have been guilty of this sometimes, too. You spend hours writing a blog post. You research images. You create social media images. And then you are so happy that you got it all finished and use the first headline that comes to your mind.
That is stupid and you will miss out on success if you don’t pay enough respect to your headlines.
“Your email list is going to be your highest converting traffic channel.”
If anyone tells you that email marketing is dead, tell him/her to shut up.
Yes, it is true that a bought email lists will not do the trick.
But building an earned list of subscribers to your email list and nurturing them to a faithful audience is not only an integral part of any good and highly converting sales funnel. Your email list is where you will make most of your money if you are running a blog or online business.
“Good communication is as stimulating as black coffee, and just as hard.”
I love coffee. I cannot live without coffee. I also love communication. But sometimes communication does not come as easy as we would like. Then you have to work for it, drink some coffee, take a deep breath, start the conversation!
